Για να γραφτεί το 1988-1989 αυτό το goth μουσικό αριστούργημα ο ίδιος ο Robert Smith ομολόγησε ότι χρειάστηκαν μεγάλη ποσότητα ναρκωτικών ουσιών,απελπισίας και καταθλιπτικής διάθεσης.Ο παραγωγός τους θεωρούσε το Disintegration ως μουσική αυτοκτονία αλλά έκανε μεγάλο λάθος.Τα 12 κομμάτια του Disintegration είναι μουσική ποίηση μια ωδή στην ηλεκτρονική μουσική και ένα μαύρο χάδι που αγγίζει την ψυχή και την καρδιά σου και τις ταξιδεύει γεμίζοντας τες με τη μαγεία της goth μελωδίας τους.
